My role was to research common patterns, understand user expectations around security, and help define a frictionless call experience aligned with enterprise needs.

Business problem

Despite being a out-of-band communication platform, real-time communication during incidents relied on third-party tools, creating gaps in control, context, and data security. This fragmented experience weakened the platform’s position in enterprise conversations where trust and speed are critical.

Enterprise buyers expected built-in encrypted communication as a standard, and the lack of this feature made our product feel incomplete compared to competitors.

BUSINESS NEED

Introduce E2E calls to retain users within the platform, reinforce trust, and improve our value proposition during security-driven purchasing decisions.

User problem

Users often had to switch to external apps like Zoom or Signal during incidents, breaking the flow of communication and raising concerns about security and context loss.

In urgent scenarios, finding the right person to call and confirming the call was secure added unnecessary friction, especially for less technical users.

USER NEED

A seamless way to initiate secure calls from within the chat, with clear indicators of encryption and minimal disruption to ongoing conversations.
